On February 28 2019, Columbia University hosted Antonio Tajani, President of the European Parliament, for a speech entitled "United States and Europe must stand together to better defend our shared values."
President Tajani, who has previously served as European Commissioner for Transport (2008-2010) and Industry and Entrepreneurship (2010-2014), was introduced by the University's President Lee C. Bollinger.
In his speech, President Tajani argued that the EU and the US are inextricably united by their shared humanist heritage and common vision for the future. It was followed by a discussion with the audience, moderated by Prof. Jan Svejnar.
The event was part of the Ambassador Donald and Vera Blinken Lecture Series on Global Governance and Columbia's World Leaders Forum. It was co-sponsored by the Center on Global Economic Governance, European Institute, and the School of International and Public Affairs.
