Drawing from 20 years of experience in top positions, EI board member and departing French Ambassador to the UN, François Delattre, offers sobering reflections on world affairs in a New York Times op-ed, "The World Grows More Dangerous by the Day."

Delattre warns that previous mechanisms of keeping order in the international system are in flux, allowing crises to spin out of control and making conflict more likely. Key among those structures are American power, solid international governance, and common rapport between a concert of nations. Crucially, Delattre believes that America's "Jacksonian" isolationism began before Trump and will outlast his tenure.

However, the situation remains plastic. Europe can become the fulcrum of international stability, and America can support its rise on the world stage.
