Marco Signori (IMT, School for Advanced Studies Lucca) in conversation with Pier Mattia Tommasino (Columbia University), Mali Elinejad Zanjani (ENS, Paris and Columbia University, Italian Academy), and Louis Moffa (Columbia University) on the occasion of the publication of Romanic Review Special Issue (2026, 117/2):
New Light on Dante's Philosophical Sources: Between Arabic and Latin
The question of Dante’s doctrinal and philosophical sources, and how he was able to acquire them in the turmoil of his personal and political life at the turn of the Trecento, is one of the pivotal problems Dante studies have to address in order to gain a better grasp of the poet’s culture, as well as of its literary import. The volume "New Light on Dante's Philosophical Sources, between Arabic and Latin", a special issue of Romanic Review guest-edited by Marco Signori (IMT School for Advanced Studies, Lucca), strives to probe anew the field of medieval thought in order to pinpoint new parallels and correspondences between philosophical ideas and Dantean concepts, doctrinal achievements and poetic excellence.
This event is part of the Italian and Mediterranean Colloquium organized by the Department of Italian and sponsored by the European Institute.
