Amidst the gala commemorations of "68," 2018 also marks the sixtieth anniversary of the Fifth Republic, a constitutional regime issued from a coup d'état and forged in colonial war. This conference is an occasion to reflect on the turbulent origins of the present-day French Republic as well as the legacies of its foundation, from the crisis of May 1958 to the institutions that continue to govern France more than half a century later.
