Applications will be considered until May 1st on a space-available basis.

We accept applicants with backgrounds from literature and art history to economics and political science. We favor applications for full-time study. Before applying, we encourage you to contact the Program Faculty Advisor and the Program Manager for more information, or to answer any specific questions.

Apply online through the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Admissions Office. Applications must include official transcripts, a statement of academic purpose, a 10-15 page writing sample, a resume or CV, three letters of recommendation, and TOEFL scores for non-native English speakers. Your application should show that you will be able to fulfill the program’s language requirement by graduation. GRE scores are optional.

The European Institute and the Graduate School offer tuition aid to highly qualified students. The Institute also offers competitive grants for thesis research in Europe. See the Graduate School’s Cost of Attendance page for information. For more information write ma.europe@columbia.edu.
