Workshop: The Colonels’ Dictatorship and Its Afterlives

Date: Apr 23, 2015 - Apr 24, 2015

Forty years after its end, the Greek military dictatorship of 1967-1974 and its context remain largely under-examined. This two-day workshop aims to map existing scholarship, initiate new research on the regime and its afterlives, and provide a forum for scholars and students of diverse disciplinary backgrounds to think collaboratively about the historical, political, social, literary, and psychological frames through which the dictatorship articulates with the present.

The workshop is sponsored by the Program in Hellenic Studies, the Department of History, the Institute for Comparative Literature & Society, the European Institute, Columbia University; the Program in Hellenic Studies & the Center for European and Mediterranean Studies, New York University; the Academy of Athens, and the Melina Merkouri Foundation.
